On 26 March, Steven Mifsud, Director of Direct Access will be joining other CEOs as part of the RBLI sleep out for homeless veterans. Can you help Steven raise awareness?
The Royal British Legion Industries (RBLI) have helped many veterans who have nowhere else to go. For various reasons they have found themselves without a home or support when they need it most. The RBLI provide valuable welfare advice and assistance with accommodation.
According to Ministry of Defence statistics in the 2018/19 year there were 391 discharges from the Navy, 1,316 from the Army and 162 from the RAF for medical reasons. More than half (57%) left as a result of multiple medical conditions. The two most common principal causes of medical discharge amongst these 1,869 were Musculoskeletal Disorders and Injuries and Mental and Behavioural Disorders. These reflect a similar pattern in previous years.
“At Direct Access we help organisations to improve accessibility for disabled people. This has included working with hostels to improve access, local council housing offices and healthcare facilities. However, not every disabled veteran is able to use such services which is where the vital personal and emotional support services of RBLI is crucial to prevent homelessness,” said Steven.
“I am spending a night on the streets in Aylesford to meet veterans who have been supported by RBLI to hear their stories. It would be great if you can sponsor RBLI.”
